TRUSTING GOD IS THE FIRST STEP

TTrust means total reliance on someone or something. To put one’s confident in someone. Trusting in God means you know Him and love being his child. Example of trust. The same as a baby total dependency on his mother

The other night, or just before it got dark, as I walked my rottweiler through the woods, I suddenly realized I was afraid. I stood in the middle of the wild park trying to think of the fastest way out of the woods. I thought for a moment, there was nothing to worry about, cause my dog weighs around one hundred and sixty pounds. But, King had never had an encounter with danger; he was a house dog. Again, fear overcame me, and I began to pray. No sooner had I finished asking, or rather, begging God to take care of me, the Holy Spirit spoke with my spirit. "Even if I am in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." (Ps 23:4) Lord, I cried out, forgive me.

Recalling the life of David made me realize that David truly trusted God. David did not go around telling people he trusted God, instead His actions showed how much he really trusted God. When David composed this psalm, he was not sitting in a palace. Rather David was running for his life. David was out in the wilderness, where there was no zoo, or fence, or guns to protect him. Yet, David is a perfect example of what trusting God is all about.
Long before David killed Goliath he had been anointed, by Samuel, as the king of Israel. Long before David was anointed he learned to trust in God. I don’t mean David went to Bible study to learn to trust God. No, David learned to trust in God while he was a shepard boy. When David was all alone and a bear or lion tried to attack his sheep David stood against them by having complete trust in the Lord. David trusted God so completely that he didn’t know how to distrust God. David trusted God as a baby trust his mother. You have never seen a baby distrust. His mother and David was the same way.
David’s trust was so great that though he had been anointed to rule Israel, he never tried to get rid of evil king Saul. Two times David had a chance to kill king Saul, but refused to do so. David could have saved himself years of running and hiding, but he never did. I must admit that before I understood trusting in God, I thought David was crazy. I mean no one would have blamed David for killing Saul. Cause Saul was unjustly seeking to kill David with his whole army. I would have taken him out, but not David.

When we read the story of David and king Saul, we noticed how God protected David. David used his God given trust to win all battles. He hid out until king Saul was dead, to avoid a conflict. David understood everything God had promised him would come to be. David’s trust included patience, love, kindness and long suffering.

How did David learn to trust in God? A very good question. David watched the stars and moon come out faithfully every night. They showed David that the God of creation was dependable. David fell in love with God, and meditated on Him day and night. He did not listen to bad reports, but to the still small voice within him. When it was time for David to defend his sheep from lions or bears, he stood in the power of his Father. David thought to himself, just how great God was. He stood his ground knowing nothing could defeat him. If David had not known God was with him, he would have been bear burger. If David had looked at how big the bear was, instead of keeping his eyes on the Father, fear would have overcome Him. If David had not the scriptures in his heart, he would have been killed while trying to find the right chapter or verse.

Remember it was the same Spirit in David that allowed him to go on the battlefield announcing he would kill Goliath, while the whole army was afraid. Remember also that the army trusted in their weapons and their training, and trusting in anything less than the Almighty will lead to trouble. We can never be educated on how to trust God. We must learn it from the Spirit of God directing our spirit. After all, who trains a baby to trust his mother.
