THE DANGERS OF OVERREADING "THE BIBLE"

Before you decide I have flipped out, give me a chance to explain. First, I am not saying reading the Bible is bad. I am saying reading the Bible because you are asked to read it, profits nothing, and reading the Bible when you have problems causes only more confusion. Some of the most tormented people I have ever met were avid Bible readers. And the most difficult people to reveal the word of God to are those who claim they understand what they read in the Bible. Sorry but reading the words of the Bible day and night will not give revelation knowledge, if so we would n to have so many different interpretations. The Holy Spirit is the only guide that reveals the scriptures to us, and because the Holy Spirit is a small voice that speaks to our hearts, most of us don’t hear it. For we cannot hear the Spirit when we are angry nor can we hear It when we are crying out to God for deliverance. The only way we can hear the revelation of God’s word is with pure hearts, seeking the truth.
Here is a list of reasons one should not read the Bible.
1. For God’s sake please don’t read the Bible when upset. We can look at history and see many wars started by men who claimed they saw their mission to destroy other nations in the Bible, some carried the Bible unto the battlefield and believed in victory because they had the Bible. Yes it is true the Bible tells of mass destruction at the command of God. The Israelites claimed God told them to destroy other nations, but the Holy Spirit says mankind invented weapons and start wars to destroy others. God cannot justify men killing other men; neither can mankind justify killing others so they blame God. God is blamed for the flood of Noah’s day because of his disappointment with mankind, and the destruction of Sodom and Gormorrah with the same Godly anger. Now if God destroyed His enemies then mankind has a right to destroy, but, if God is not guilty, of destruction then mankind has no right to destroy one another. It is the misunderstanding of God’s words that created wars and confusion. God would not kill one nation of sinners and let other sinners live. I am saying that if God killed the enemies of the Israelites because of sin, then why did He not destroy the Israelites, for they sinned continually against God. See this makes no sense, except you are looking for justification to destroy your enemies. That’s why reading the Bible when you are angry can be damaging.
2. Don’t read the Bible to impress others. You know the name of every book in the Bible. You would never be without a Bible and confirm every conversation about God with your Bible. Excuse me but I must burst your bubble, because carrying the Bible under your arm does not mean you understand Its contents. To understand the Bible means to carry it in your heart, and when someone starts talking about the Bible it becomes alive to you, and The Holy Spirit gives you all the revelation needed to understand the scriptures.
Once you examined a Bible, and saw the letters, but your understanding was not mature enough to know the spiritual revelation between the letters, now that you are allowing your spiritual guide to lead, you are beginning to follow. You do not need the Bible to impress others, for you are empowered as the Master and speak from the heart. This power comes because you seek to know the truth of God’s word instead of reading to show others how Godly you are. And when someone faces you with the letter of the Bible, you will know the Spirit of the Bible. Most people who know only the letter can quote names of chapters and verses, but they have no idea behind most verses there is a story, and between each word there is a paragraph, so they read and remember the letter the same as they would a history book.
To know whether you are reading the Bible to impress others or to get closer to God, ask yourself if the Bible is alive to you. If the Bible is a pleasure to read and you wish to read it, then you are on the right road. If the Bible is difficult to read and you read it only when requested then you are on the wrong road. The Bible is to be read with a heart filled need to fellowship with the Father.
3. Don’t get committed to your Bible and forget to fellowship with the Father.
Some people have made a lifeless regiment of reading the Bible, especially in front of others, as if this were their ticket to front row seats in Heaven. And what about those who have their names printed in their Bibles, and pretty little colored chapter dividers. Recent statistics from five hundred confessed Christians, eighty percent of them had no idea why Genesis is in the front of the book, yet they are behind the book attempting to predict the return of Jesus. It is startling how so called Christians have no idea that we have the Bible because God in His mercy knew mankind needed a road map back to Himself. God knew mankind needed something to see with their physical eyes that's why the Bible exists today. Many Bibles were burnt, and many people lost their lives, in the quest to have the Bible available today. But the Bible has lost its power to strengthen mankind because of the multiple translations, lack of revelations and reading in desperation.
It is time we started understanding God, and the only way to understand and benefit from the Bible is reading it with a wish to share with God. A person filled with the love of God will surely receive the revelation of God’s word, and once you begin receiving revelation knowledge you will find that you must not always have the Bible present to quote it. So we see that revelation knowledge does not depend on repetitiously reading but on the need of the heart. Remember God is much bigger than the Bible, and cannot be embodied in a book, even if the book stretched halfway around the world.
